Synopsis
July 1995. April and Eddie have taken a wrong turn. They’re looking for the small resort town where they plan to spend their honeymoon. When they spot what appears to be a lone hitchhiker along the deserted road, they stop to help. But not long after the hitchhiker gets into their car, they see the blood seeping from her jacket and a truck barreling down Atticus Line after them.
When the hitchhiker dies at the local hospital, April and Eddie find themselves in the crosshairs of the Coldlake Falls police. Unexplained murders have been happening along Atticus Line for years and the cops finally have two witnesses who easily become their only suspects. As April and Eddie start to dig into the history of the town and that horrible stretch of road to clear their names, they soon learn that there is something supernatural at work, something that could not only tear the town and its dark secrets apart, but take April and Eddie down with it all.

Why I love it

I’ve always loved books that toe the line between the paranormal world and reality. Is that ghost real? Or is it a trick of the eye? Is the house actually haunted? Or is there a more logical explanation? It creates a more psychological read that leaves even the most seasoned reader second-guessing themselves.
It is 1995, and newlyweds April and Eddie are on their way to their honeymoon in a small resort town. The only problem is that somewhere along the way they seem to have taken a wrong turn. While trying to find their way back, they come across a lone hitchhiker in need of assistance along a highway called Atticus Line. Not long after they’ve picked her up, they realize that she has been attacked and is bleeding from her stomach. When the hitchhiker dies at a local hospital, Eddie and April’s honeymoon gets derailed once again as they become prime suspects in a string of unexplainable murders that have happened along Atticus Line over the years. As they work to clear their names, April and Eddie will start to question if there is something more sinister at play that could put them in even more danger.
Simone St. James has easily become one of my go-to authors when I want a suspense-filled, nail-biting read and Murder Road delivers on both fronts. If you’re anything like me, you will be reading Murder Road late into the night, unable to put it down.
